Sweet potatoes are a staple that food importers, distributors and processors reorder on a calendar. We supply fresh sweet potatoes from Shandong with consistent weight grading, clean, well-cured skins and packing built to survive long sea freight. If you run produce import programs, supply foodservice kitchens, or process sweet potatoes into fries, snacks, purée or starch, this page is for you. Key specifications: variety 【e.g. red-skin yellow-flesh, white-flesh on request】; weight/grade 【e.g. 150-300 g, 300-500 g per piece; count per carton】; curing 7-10 days controlled curing before shipping (skin set); packing 【e.g. 10 kg export cartons, 5 kg retail-ready cartons, mesh bags】; loading 【e.g. 24-28 MT per 40ft reefer container】; supply window 【e.g. Aug-May】; MOQ: 5 MT; certification ISO-certified; HALAL, KOSHER. The same field produces both; the difference is a set of judgements at the grading table. Retail grade means a root a shopper will pick up: even shape, unbroken skin, no scab clusters, no growth cracks, a size that fills a 500 g or 1 kg pack without leaving air. Processing grade tolerates a bent root and a healed scar, because that root is about to be peeled. Our sweet potato for processing page covers the other brief, where dry matter and yield decide.
Weight bands are the working language of this trade because they translate into pack count. A 150–250 g band gives an even 1 kg bag of four to six roots; 250–400 g suits two-kilo packs and foodservice cases where a kitchen wants a consistent portion. Mixed bands cost less per ton and merchandise badly. Ask for the band in grams and the count range per pack, and treat count as the criterion.
Skin is the display surface. A retail load should show dry, smooth skin in the variety's natural colour, no weeping at the stem end, no white sprout tips. Curing delivers that: several warm, humid days after lifting set the skin and seal harvest wounds, which is why a cured root survives a four-week voyage. Rub marks and skinned patches are mechanical, so they say something about the packer.
Shandong sweet potato is lifted from late summer into autumn, and quality is not flat across that window. Early-lifted roots carry more moisture, thinner skin and shorter shelf life; roots lifted later and cured properly are the better bet for a programme that must hold quality into spring. Off-season orders come out of controlled storage, where the root is alive and losing water slowly, so the later you buy in the season, the more the storage history matters.
Wholesale and repacking customers take 10 kg or 20 kg mesh bags, sometimes vented cartons: both breathe and both stack predictably. Retail programmes move to 500 g, 1 kg and 2 kg bags with printed film, barcodes and a pack date, and those formats cube out a container long before the weight limit, so loading is calculated on volume. Private label print and pack count are approved on artwork before the first run; our Shandong 8520 hairy taro loads on the same plan.
Sweet potato is chilling-sensitive, and this is where retail programmes lose money. It should travel and store cool but not cold, roughly 13–15 °C, in ventilated cartons. Below about 10 °C the root takes chilling injury: flesh darkens, hard core develops, and rot follows warming. Above 20 °C it sprouts and loses weight.
Minimum order is 1 metric ton per grade. A 20-foot container takes about 16 tons and a 40-foot about 25 tons in mesh bags, with retail bags cutting the payload. Terms are FOB Qingdao, payment settled in full before the container leaves the plant. Lead time is normally within three weeks of a signed contract. Shipments carry commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, certificate of analysis and phytosanitary certificate; HALAL and KOSHER documentation is available on request.

A retail programme is a calendar, not an order. Fix the pack count first, then the weight band that delivers it, then the months you can sell, and only then argue about price per ton. Retailers re-order on look, so photograph the approved sample and keep it as the standard. Plan the last order of the season early: storage roots in late winter are a different product from new-crop.
Yes. Give us the count range and bag weight, and we grade to the band that delivers it.
Almost always chilling injury from a container or store running below 10 °C, occasionally a curing failure. It cannot be reversed; the fix is the temperature instruction.
We dry-brush and grade. Washing improves the look for a few days but shortens storage life, so it is used only where the customer sells quickly.
Twenty-kilo vented cartons, because they protect the root in transit and open flat on a repacking table.
One metric ton per grade, FOB Qingdao, with payment settled before the container leaves the plant. Lead time is normally three weeks from a signed contract.
Sweet potatoes bruise and lose moisture fast, so the curing step is not optional — it decides how the load arrives. We cure for 7-10 days after harvest so the skin sets and small harvest cuts seal over, which cuts shrinkage in transit and extends shelf life at your end. When you compare suppliers, ask them about their curing step — then compare.

Our team is based in Shandong, the same province where our sweet potatoes are grown, so we control the chain from field to port — no middle layers, no surprises in quality or timing. Every lot is hand-graded, then documented with photos before loading. Sweet potato is a regular export item in our program, and our documentation team knows the destination-specific paperwork for each market.
1. Are your sweet potatoes cured? Yes — every export lot is cured for 7-10 days so the skin sets before packing.
2. What varieties can you supply? 【e.g. red-skin yellow-flesh, white-flesh on request】 — tell us your market preference.
3. What packing do you recommend for sea freight? 【e.g. 10 kg export cartons with proper ventilation】; mesh bags and retail-ready cartons available on request.
4. Can I get photos or samples before ordering? Yes — photos of each grade before loading; 【e.g. 1-2 kg sample with shipping quote】 on request.
